Benifits of Kiln-Dried Logs
- Kiln drying the logs quickly minimizes them from warping and checking. Compared to air-dried or green logs, moisture is slowly lost which will result in shrinkage and twisting. When shrinkage occurs in a log wall the joints can turn into gaps that allows air-infiltration. Also any warping prior the log can be milled straight.
- Kiln-dried logs are sanitized without chemical treatment. Logs are under extreme heat for 28 to 34 days to destroy fungus, mold, and insects.
- Sap is hardened from the heat inside the kiln. This prevents the sap from seeping out of the logs.
- Logs that are ready to be removed from the kiln have added strength. This added strength allows screws to remain tight, greatly reducing shifting in log walls.
- The kiln-dried logs can be immediately stained inside and out. Our quality water based, environmentally friendly stains will penetrate deeper and last much longer in a kiln-dried log.
